We bought the Kielometsä ("Forest of Lilies of the Valley", name invented by us) property in 2007 and have since then renovated, decorated and, above all, built the garden endlessly. The property is located in Southern
Finland, about 100 km North of Helsinki. The landscape is dominated by thick spruce and mixed forests, moraine ridges and very small lakes mixed with pastures and grain fields. We have renovated and decorated the house in a rather romantic style that
is a mixture of Finnish 1940s' country house style and British country style. We are building the garden in more or less classical cottage garden style, though our cold climate makes plant variety much smaller than in milder climates. Our interests include
gardening, collecting ornamental plants (roses, rhododendrons, magnolias, primroses), collecting edible plants (fruits, berries, perennial vegetables, alternative crops), fragrant plants, breeding of roses and rhododendrons for cold climates, cooking and baking,
jam and conserve making, picking wild berries & mushrooms, photography and reading, among other things. The texts in this website have been written by Jukka if not otherwise stated. We'd be happy to get any feedback or comments. Leave a comment in the
